At their best an adult Boxer is an even-tempered companion to mankind and animals alike. They are extremely curious and totally loyal to the entire family and will defend man, woman, and child with their lives. Boxers generally love all people but can be very effective protectors as well. As of this writing there are no insurance company lists that ban the Boxer as being uninsurable. Let's keep it this way by training and controlling our Boxers!
The Boxers possess great dignity and stoicism yet have a sense of fun, often at the guardians expense! They love to play, and they love to snuggle!
The Boxers credo seems to be: If you are not touching me I WILL be touching you! They love people and are a "high input" dog requiring a great deal of attention- and they are indoor dogs!
Boxers have a consistently high rating for being good with children. They have a high tolerance for toddlers but should be supervised and the child must be trained to not abuse the dog!
The younger the average Boxer the more exuberant the behavior (think of a child at Christmas morning) to the point of knocking people down with their enthusiasm, while unwelcome to adults this is especially difficult for toddlers and older people to deal with and should be trained out of them immediately so that all will welcome them.
Boxers are quite intelligent and they read us like a book! We aren't usually so blessed with this natural ability and therefore a good obedience class is a must for Boxers and guardian alike. Not all obedience classes are equally good, so shop around.
Boxers were bred to think for themselves and will! It is quite important that you learn to put yourself in the role of the leader with this breed.
